(Resident 5/1973 to present)
While I am not a Veteran myself, my newest endeavor in joining the Verde Valley Military Service Park Committee is an honor for me in working alongside so many distinguished Veterans and community minded citizens to make this tribute a reality. I have been a resident of the area since arriving here in 1973. I graduated with Honors from both Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood and Yavapai College in Clarkdale. In 1980, I established DeTar Construction and have grown my company to one of the top General Contracting companies in Sedona. We have developed and maintained a reputation for the finest home construction for an extremely discerning clientele. I have always felt the need to be an integral part of my Community and to give back with both my funds and expertise to deserving organizations. As I was raising my children, I coached youth soccer with AYSO for over 23 years. During that time, I also refereed and held board positions as Town Commissioner, Regional Commissioner and Area Director for the national board for the western states. I also coached Little League Baseball for 8 years. As my family matured, I chose to lend my skills to larger and more dynamic Non-Profit Organizations. I held both Board and Executive Board positions for the Sedona Community Foundation for over 4 years and was the Chairman of Donor and Fund Development during my tenure there. I spent 3 years with the Sedona 30 and served one year as the President of that prestigious organization. As President, I brought back the “Sedona Miracle” event and Chaired the committee that raised over $160,000 to benefit our schools and Sedona Red Rock High School graduates with $30,000 in scholarships granted in a single year. We also funded 50% of the Veterans Service Park in Sedona and $51,000 to the Public Schools to maintain important programs for Art, Physical Education and Career Counselors. All as a result of that one single fundraising event. I am looking forward to serving this committee to honor ALL of our Military Veterans with a permanent acknowledgement of their Service to our Country.
